On February 9, 2016, Solomon McAuley, Centralina WDB's Youth Specialist, was able to interview Jeremy Bout, host and producer of Edge Factor Films and TV series at a live Spark Session event in Lincoln County.
The event was designed to engage the community, inspire students, and educators with the well-known high impact resources produced by Edge Factor. Edge Factor produces films and TV series that tell stories of innovative teams creating innovative ideas that can become a reality through advanced manufacturing. The event was designed to launched eduFACTOR and show students from eight local schools the career paths that will grow Lincoln County’s manufacturing industry.

During the evening of February 9th, an event was held to reach and connect with parents to change their perceptions of manufacturing, highlight careers, and help them encourage their children to pursue CTE and mechatronics. To encourage participation, students were invited to vote for their school to win doughnuts which was delivered to the winning school the following day. West Lincoln High School won the contest with over 1,000 votes. Other prizes were also given at the event including Carowinds passes, tickets to the Coca Cola 600, and much more.
On the following day a Leadership Roundtable Meeting was held for industry, educational leaders, and workforce professionals in North Carolina in order to share the success of the events as examples for communities to replicate throughout the state. David Hollars, Centralina WDB’s Executive Director and other Centralina WDB partners were in attendance. Many partners outside of Lincoln County stressed they’re working to bring this initiative to their communities.
Overall all students, parents, and business professionals were engaged with Edge Factor’s storytelling approach. Many were inspired and are looking forward to taking key steps to launch the success of eduFACTOR.
