During the meeting Centralina Business Services Leader Mark Seifel shared the NCWorks Certified Career Pathways project that the Centralina WDB has been working on with CharlotteWorks and the Gaston WDB.  The project is geared towards integrating the workforce development system ensuring training is aligned with the job demands of high growth in different industry sectors. Career Pathways are development programs comprised of educators, workforce partners, and employers that ensures the training for individuals aligns with the current and future needs of businesses. Craig Lamb, VP of Customized and Continuing Education at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Mandy Mills, CTE Director with Rowan-Salisbury School System and Seifel presented an overview on how NCWorks Certified Career Pathways are developed and operationalized in the region. The current Centralina Career Pathways projects industries are in Advanced Manufacturing (Mechatronics) and Health Care.

Another topic of discussion at the Board meeting was advocacy and communications.  The Centralina WDB, in partnership with two other local workforce boards, began working with Advocacy & Communications Solutions (ACS) on creating a formal plan for helping board members become effective spokespersons and ambassadors. Asia Wilson, Centralina WDB Communications Specialist and Narissa Knight, Centralina Services Specialist have been working with ACS to advance the Board’s communications strategy throughout the region. John Metcalf led the overall conversation.

Towards the end of the meeting Ronnie Grantham, Regional Operations Director for the NCWorks Southwest Prosperity Zone, gave an update on NC Commerce's 2017 Strategic Economic Development Initiative.

Overall, the meeting was very productive, and a lot was accomplished.  The next Centralina WDB meeting will be on Tuesday, December 11, 2017.  For more information about the meeting contact David Hollars, Centralina WDB Executive Director at
